ABSTRACT

In Chapter 6, we propose an approach to forward the soft information at the relay with rate 1 b/sample, based on estimate-and-forward (EF) applied network-coded two-way relay channels. Since the probability distribution of the soft information varies according to the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the source-to-relay channel, we use different delivery schemes based on a preset threshold. Specifically, in the low SNR region, we apply joint trellis coded quantization/modulation (TCQ/M) to the network-coded EF protocol. In the case of the high SNR region, we employ an alternative scheme of decode-and-forward (DF) or EF with a refined codebook of TCQ/M. Simulations have shown that both schemes outperform amplify-and-forward (AF) scheme and DF scheme over fading channels.
