ABSTRACT

Cedrus deodara is a graceful, ornamental evergreen tree which can grow up to 60 meters and develop a diameter of 3 meters. It is native to the temperate and tropical regions of Asia and grows extensively on the slopes of the western Himalayas at altitudes of 1200-3000 meters. The tree is cultivated in China as an ornamental plant and for its timber, which is utilized in shipbuilding, furniture, bridges, and construction. Various parts of the deodar are used in traditional medicine for the treatment of a wide range of ailments such as fever, inflammation, pain, ulcers, hyperglycemia, infections, insomnia, mental disorders and diseases of the skin and blood. Cedarwood oil Himalaya is a yellowish to brownish slightly viscous clear liquid, which has a pleasant, typical, mild and woody cedar connotation odor. The yield of essential oil from cedarwood oil Himalaya varies from 2.3 to 4.7 per cent, depending on the dryness of the wood and its pre-distillation grinding.
