ABSTRACT

Cinnamon bark oil, Sri Lanka type, is the essential oil obtained from the twigs and bark of stem of the cinnamon, Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume. Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume is an evergreen small tree, up to 10 meters tall with a black-brown bark, and an inner bark with cinnamon flavor. The tree is native to Sri Lanka. It is naturalized on islands in the western Indian Ocean, the Pacific and the Caribbean. The dried bark is the source of the spice cinnamon, which is widely used in seasonings, cosmetics, foods, drinks, commodity essences and the chemical industries. Cinnamon is also a major medicinal substance in China and many other countries and is present in a multitude of pharmaceutical preparations. Cinnamon bark oil is not used in aromatherapy because of the risk of skin sensitization. Cinnamon bark oil is an amber to brown, clear mobile liquid which has a strong sweet spicy, characteristic odor.
