ABSTRACT

The leaves and terminal branches serve for the production of the essential eucalyptus citriodora oil, which has wide applications in perfumery, pharmaceutical, chemical and other industries. The chemical industries use the oil as source material to produce citronellol, hydroxycitronellol and menthol. The oil also has pharmacological applications in antiinflammatory and antipyretic remedies and against the symptoms of respiratory infections, such as colds, flu and sinus congestion. The essential oil from the leaves is purported to have a number of biological properties, including antibacterial, antifungal, antispasmodic, nematicidal, allelopathic, insecticidal and antioxidant. Eucalyptus citriodora oil is a mobile, colorless to yellow or yellowish green liquid which has a fresh, slightly citrusy odor reminding of citronellal. The oil also has pharmacological applications in antiinflammatory and antipyretic remedies and against the symptoms of respiratory infections, such as colds, flu and sinus congestion.
