ABSTRACT

Lavandin grosso oil is a light yellow, clear mobile liquid which has a fresh, herbal and floral, camphoraceous odor. In lavandin grosso oils from various origins, over 100 chemicals have been identified. About 44 per cent of these were found in a single reviewed publication only. In addition, many studies on lavandin grosso oils have investigated the differences between the oils from cultivars ‘Abrial’, ‘Grosso’ and ‘Super’, thereby focusing on the main constituents only. The ten chemicals that had the highest maximum concentrations in 148 commercial lavandin grosso essential oil samples are the following: linalool (26.0–38.6%), linalyl acetate (23.936.0%), 1,8-cineole (3.0–9.5%), camphor (5.9–9.0%), terpinen-4-ol (2.0–5.5%), borneol (1.3–3.7%), lavandulyl acetate (1.5–3.2%), P-caryophyllene (1.0–2.5%), (E)-P-farnesene (0.6–1.7%) and a-terpineol (0.3–1.7%).
