ABSTRACT

Ravensara oil should not be confused – but often is – with ravintsara oil, the essential oil obtained from the species Cinnamomum camphora. R avensara aromatica Sonnerat is an evergreen aromatic tree which can grow up to 20 meters and has a deep rich reddish brown bark. It is native to the wet forests of east Madagascar and is cultivated in Mauritius. Ravensara oil is a yellowish to greenish yellow easily mobile liquid, which has an aromatic, phenolic to spicy anise odor. An aromatherapist had non-occupational contact dermatitis with allergies to multiple essential oils used at work, including ravensara oil. A female ‘complementary therapist’ developed occupational contact dermatitis from a multitude of essential oils used at work, including ravensara oil.
