Dalmatian sage oil is the essential oil obtained from the flowering tops of the sage, Salvia officinalis L. Salvia officinalis L. is a perennial, evergreen subshrub, up to 60 cm tall, with a woody base, soft gray-green oval leaves and a mass of blue or violet inflorescences. The name Salvia comes from the Latin salvere, which means ‘to be well, to be in good health’, indicating the (perceived) medical value of the plant. The leaves and extracts of Salvia officinalis L. are used as spices and for healing of different diseases. The plant is said to be appetizing and to promote digestion of food. The essential oil of sage, which is obtained by steamdistillation of the flowering tops or the leaves, is used in traditional medicine and by the pharmaceutical, perfumery, liqueur and food industries. Dalmatian sage oil is a colorless to yellow clear mobile liquid, which has an herbaceous, aromatic-spicy green camphoraceous odor.
