Turpentine oil is the essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the gum resin of Pinus massoniona Lamb. Pinus pinaster Aiton, and other Pinus species. Turpentine oil is obtained by steam distillation of the oleoresin of Pinus pinaster Aiton, Pinus massoniana Lamb. Turpentine oil is an ingredient in many liniments, cold remedies, and veterinary medications. Turpentine oil, Chinese type, is a colorless, clear mobile liquid, which has a strong terpeny and resinous odor. The yield of essential oil from this turpentine oil varies from 17.0 to 22.0 per cent, depending on the processing method. The main producing country of this oil is China. Turpentine oil, Iberian type, is a colorless, clear-mobile liquid, which has a strong terpeny, mildly coniferous, resinous odor. The yield of essential oil from turpentine oil varies from 20.0 to 23.0 per cent, depending on the processing method. Turpentine oil is often loosely referred to as ‘turpentine’.
