ABSTRACT

CRs have been used for various purposes and in diverse sectors. All these purposes can be broadly categorized into three roles: testing, training, and research. CRs provide ideal platform for fulfilling either one or all three roles. Although some CRs are constructed to cater only specific roles, they may specifically be designed for testing purposes; therefore, incorporating different types of testing techniques. Some of them like penetration, security, and software testing are also discussed in this chapter. CRs also support trainings of all kinds of participants, from students to employees. CRs are capable of carrying out trainings pertaining to cybersecurity awareness and incident response. They are also used for conducting research on new security policies, procedures, etc. This chapter discusses how these roles are implemented by a CR.
