ABSTRACT

CRs offer excellent resources for the execution of CEs. These exercises are very important for training personnel and to implement cybersecurity awareness principles. They are being used actively in major commercial sectors, military and in academics for training and preparing against every possible kind of cyberattacks. Testing new fixes or products is more viable in a simulation environment like the exercises provided by a CR. This helps in generating a comprehensive report on the functionality of new additions to the system without having any real-consequence catastrophes. This chapter discusses the different aspects of CEs in detail along with discussing the roles of different teams in an exercise. There are typically four teams: red, blue, white, and green, their numbers though may vary depending upon the objectives of a CE. The participants are divided into any of the teams and they need to perform all the tasks collectively and achieve their specific learning objectives. This chapter includes the necessities, life cycle, steps in designing, different kinds of approaches, and features of CEs. Lastly, the different teams’ roles in CEs are discussed as well.
