Introduction

This chapter presents an introduction and overview of the fundamental modes of heat transfer, including conduction, convection, radiation, and phase change heat transfer. Fundamental concepts and definitions are introduced. Thermophysical, thermodynamic, and transport properties are presented and discussed. The processes and governing equations of mass transfer are also briefly described.
