ABSTRACT

Lublin is a city with county rights, capital of the Lublin voivodeship and Lublin county and the center of Lublin agglomeration. In Lublin, the particle concentrations in air are characterized by seasonal and daily variations. The transportation fleet of Lublin predominantly comprises relatively old, gasoline and diesel vehicles, including trucks, vans, cars, buses and electric trolleybuses. In Lublin, the possibility of conducting air pollution measurements with almost complete exclusion of traffic-related particle mass occurred in the course of the spring lockdown of 2020, which was introduced due to the spreading SARS-CoV-2 virus and COVID-19 pandemic. Air toxics constitute a huge and diversified group of pollutants known or suspected to induce harmful effects in people, given sufficient exposure. Effective methods of mitigating the health risks could be developed by conducting simultaneous, multi-point and extended research to determine the relation between particle concentrations and exposure of pedestrians under different meteorological conditions in particular seasons.
