ABSTRACT

Testing and balancing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) air and water systems calls for a systematic approach. Fill out the specified information on the required report forms for each system being tested. Report forms will include equipment testing and balancing of the distribution system. After the reports are prepared, inspect the job site to see that the building is architecturally ready to be balanced. On the air side, designate all volume dampers, splitters, automatic dampers, fire dampers, etc. Do the same for the water side for all balancing valves, flow meters, automatic control valves, etc. After becoming familiar with the system, decide on the method of balancing. The central HVAC system is a water-to-water system, which means it has a cooling tower and a water-cooled condenser on the heat rejection side and a water cooler and chilled water coils on the heat pickup side.
