ABSTRACT

It is important to set the outside air dampers for minimum requirements to maintain good indoor air quality. Larger systems will have automatic temperature control dampers as economizer dampers in the return air duct and outside air duct. If the system is variable air volume, a fan may be installed in the outside air duct to bring in the proper amount of fresh air requirements when the variable air volume (VAV) fan is at minimum airflow. After the supply air and return air terminals are balanced to specifications, go to the air handling unit and set the minimum outside air dampers. Testing and balancing is done with the constant air volume or VAV system in a static mode. When the balancing is finished, the controls take over and the system operates in a dynamic mode to maintain desired temperature and humidity in the conditioned space.
