ABSTRACT

Mechanical design is the application of many of the principles of science and technology in the creation of a product and the consideration of the various factors that affect its production and use. Interactive computer graphics is a partnership between the computer and the human being, combining the best abilities of each to form a powerful drafting, design, and engineering team. Interactive computer graphics enables the designer/engineer to draw a three-dimensional mathematical model of an object in space. In an interactive computer graphics system, the computer does most of the work. It processes data and stores and manages them. All systems in use present day consist of a computer, a magnetic tape unit, a magnetic disk unit, a display terminal, a keyboard, an electromagnetic tablet and stylus or light pen, usually a hard-copy device, a large digitizer, a plotter, a medium- to high-speed printer, and software.
