ABSTRACT

l-N,N‱-Dimethylaminonaphthalene-5-sulfonyl (dansyl) derivatives have been widely used in qualitative amino acid analysis, the determination of the amino acid terminus of peptides, and for manual microsequence determination. The preparation of dansyl amino acid derivatives is rapid and under carefully controlled conditions is essentially quantitative. Recent studies have demonstrated that these derivatives can be analyzed with good selectivity and detection sensitivity by both normal and reversed-phase HPLC.
