An elastic medium model is based on the integral conservation laws for the mass, momentum, and energy. The energy conservation law gives one more basic equation of continuum mechanics. According to this law, the total energy of the Lagrangian volume changes due to external influxes of all kinds of energies. The total energy can be represented as a sum of kinetic and internal energies. The coefficients are specified by elastic properties of a particular material and are termed the elastic moduli. The chapter argues that the results obtained in the elasticity theory can be applied to some cases of nonlinear electromagnetic wave propagation. A branch of mechanics dealing with motions of an elastic conducting medium in a magnetic field is termed magnetoelasticity.
