ABSTRACT

Figures IV.70–IV.73 depict records of acceleration observed at different locations on the surrounding ground and in the structure (bridge) during an earthquake to provide an understanding of ground and structure vibrations. Figure IV.70 shows the records obtained for a bridge, its pier and the surrounding ground; Figure IV.71 depicts the response spectrum of the Japan Nuclear Power Research Institute’s dynamic test furnace (JPDR) set up on reclaimed land; Figure IV.72 shows the records obtained for a underground tank and its surrounding ground. Finally, Fig. IV.73 depicts the records obtained for artificially hardened ground, which is harder than the surrounding area.
