ABSTRACT
This chapter includes the design of elementary members such as beams, columns, bracing, crane girders, and so on, and their load sharing function in a total system framework. Design examples are furnished in accordance with AISC specifications – LRFD (load and resistance factor design) and ASD (allowable strength design) methods–and Indian Standard code IS: 800 –Limit State and Working Stress Methods.
Readers will also benefit from connection details presented with explanatory sketches. The method of design of a special structure –a raw coal bunker –is shown with typical drawing details.
