ABSTRACT

This chapter presents various aspects of safety in the offshore oil and gas industry. It covers offshore industrial sector-related risk picture, offshore worker situation awareness concept, studies, and their results, offshore industry deadliest accidents’ case studies, offshore industry accident reporting approach and offshore accident-associated causes, problems, and references.

In the case of offshore worker situation awareness concept, studies, and their results the chapter covers two studies. The offshore industry deadliest accidents’ case studies include Piper Alpha accident, Alexander L. Kielland accident, Glomar Java Sea Drillship accident, Seacrest Drillship accident, Bohai 2 Oil Rig accident, Enchova Central Platform Accident, Mumbai High North Platform accident, and Baker Drilling Barge accident.

Also, the chapter presents ten problems to test the reader’s comprehension in the area. Finally, it is added that the sources of most of the material presented in the chapter are given in its references section.
