ABSTRACT

This chapter presents ten methods to perform safety analysis of engineering systems. The methods are hazards and operability analysis (HAZOP), failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis (FTA), Markov method, control charts, interface safety analysis, preliminary hazard analysis (PHA), root cause analysis (RCA), technic of operation review (TOR), and job safety analysis.

At appropriate places, the chapter contains examples along with their solutions, and there are ten problems, at the end of the chapter to test the reader’s comprehension in the area. Finally, it is added that the sources of most of the material presented in the chapter are given in its reference section. They will be useful to readers if they desire to delve more deeply into a specific area.
