ABSTRACT
For safe and usable human-automation interactions and interfaces to be developed, forming foundations is important. This chapter outlines the framework for the remaining chapters within this book and provides an overview on how these chapters link together to form a cohesive, step-by-step approach to human-machine interface (HMI) design. The chapter outlines the main issues, research questions, hypotheses, and chapter summaries for the remainder of the book.
