ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the theoretical, practical, and methodological contributions made by this book’s chapters and discusses it in relation to future human-automation interaction design. It reflects on the gaps in current research and the challenges that remain within achieving safe and trustworthy automated vehicles (AVs) for the world’s societies while evaluating how the theories of joint activity (JA) and distributed situation awareness (DSA) can continue to have an impact on AV system design.
