ABSTRACT

Introduction deals with electric energy conversion (“production” and “consumption”) up-to-date trends in basic types of power electric transformers, rotary and linear motion electric machines, with their principles, power ranges, and applications in modern power systems (with large renewably energy penetration) and in various industries from e-transport, robotics, industrial fabrication equipment, smart residences, and info gadgets.

Power, special power and measurement transformers, electric machines (motors and generators) with fix and mobile (traveling) magnetic fields are all introduced with their principles, power range, and preferrable applications. Losses and power energy efficiencies and power factor, physical (thermal, mechanical, electrostatic) limitations, ratings definitions, name-plate rating, methods of analysis are presented with a few illustrative numerical examples, a few proposed problems, and a Recap Summary are also available, to offer a panoramic view of electric machines in applications. Eight MATLAB computer problems available online illustrate the main issues in the Chapters of this book intended for undergrad students and young engineers.
