ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the interaction of users with hundreds of consumer products in their lives. It is expected that this interaction will be done in a pleasurable, safe, and efficient way, free of physical damage, inconvenience, and accidents. We argue that this will only occur if the product has a good design, which presupposes that it is an ergonomically well-designed product. The concepts of consumer product, quality, ergonomics, ErgoDesign, and product design are presented. The sometime uneasy relationship between designers and ergonomists is also discussed.
