ABSTRACT

The three major stages of FEM analysis for electric machine electromagnetics are treated here: preprocessor stage, solving the field problem, and postprocessor stage; they are presented here via a tubular linear PM single-phase oscillatory motor case study. Then a rotary BLDC (brushless d.c.=rectangular current).

PMSM is FEM analyzed in detail in all three stages via a case study, while in the end a three-phase IM is then FEM analyzed, in terms of ideal no load and rotor skin effect, via a case study illustrative simulation results and interpretations, again, through the free access FEMM4.2. software.

The detailed discussion of results facilitates “deep” but “fast” learning of FEM (electromagnetic) analysis of electric machines rotary and linear (60 figures). Two of the total 11 computer programs illustrate the FEM analysis of BLDC-PM and IM machine and thus they may be used as a user-friendly “teacher” for the “autonomous” new reader in the field.
