ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the solution to the wave equation in rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates. Many examples of wave propagation in the various coordinates systems are discussed. In rectangular coordinates: the partially filled and empty waveguides, cavity, and dielectric waveguides. In cylindrical coordinates: the cylindrical waveguide and cavity, sectoral waveguide, radial waveguide, wedge, sectoral horn, bend waveguide, and dielectric resonator. In spherical coordinates, the Debye gauge is used and the resulting wave equations in terms of the Debye potentials are obtained. Examples include the conical waveguide, cavity, and the Earth-Ionosphere cavity. The wave transformations from rectangular to cylindrical coordinates and from rectangular to spherical coordinates are included.
