ABSTRACT

In this chapter the Green functions are discussed. Green functions provide a convenient method to solve inhomogeneous wave equations. The Sturm-Liouville equation is presented and the Green functions are obtained using the eigenfunctions method, followed by the Green function representation using the direct method. Delta functions representations are also discussed. Situations where the use of Green functions are appropriate are discussed. Green functions in rectangular geometries are derived for both electric and magnetic sources. The same is done for Green functions in cylindrical and spherical coordinates. Several forms of the Green functions in spherical coordinates are derived, including the Green function in terms of the Schelkunoff-Bessel functions.
