To grow upwards, people need the right foundations. People need the right patterns and shapes to enable them to add the structure on top and to continue to build upwards to reach new heights. In data solutions, there are a set of frameworks and foundations that need to be built. Building an infrastructure footprint and installing the right technologies on it to accept data used to be one of the critical-path elements in the timeline of people's solution. Data is acting more and more like code within a data and analytics system. In the successful systems people have built, treating the data model like libraries of code that can be added into a build script to support new analysis rapidly has been key to building the flexibility to survive the passage of time. Often requirements can change at the last minute, and having to rewire the whole data architecture to support this will take too long.
