ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the general aspects of high-lift systems. It outlines the need and benefits. It gives a short historical summary on the key milestones of the development and explains the standard limits of safe flight and the extension of such boundaries of the envelope of aircraft operations by the use of high-lift systems.
