ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the passive means of lift augmentation. After a short general introduction about the effects of leading and trailing edge devices, it starts with slotless devices. After a detailed discussion of the aerodynamic effects at slotted airfoils, the slotted high-lift devices are discussed. Finally, a discussion is made on vortex generating devices and their special use to locally prevent premature stall onset.
