ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses active means of lift augmentation. Since actively changing the flow is mostly performed in a controlled way, it is often named as Active Flow Control (AFC). When discussing an active suppression of flow separation, the term Active Flow Separation Control is widely used.
AFC can be subdivided into boundary layer control, circulation control, and powered lift. This chapter deals with these methods in three separate sections.
