ABSTRACT
People have always been interested in different ways to convey important information and transmit messages from one place to another quickly and efficiently. This aspect drove the human innovation starting with the prehistoric man that made use of smoke signals to today's use of high end mobile devices. This chapter introduces an overview of the key milestones that demonstrate the never-ending push for progress in science and technology of communication with the spectacular evolution of mobile and wireless technologies. The present trend to move towards a highly intelligent global digital ecosystem of shared standards that could enable unlimited wireless connectivity and seamless Quality of Experience for the mobile users is also discussed.
