ABSTRACT

The rapid growth of smart devices, sensors, wireless networks, big data and computing power accelerated the development and deployment of massive IoT. This chapter introduces the reader to the paradigms of intelligence based networked systems and in particular Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning and more recently digital twins that enable intelligent habitation, intelligent building control, smart vehicle technology and industrial processes. An use-case scenario on how the technology can be used for public health emergencies in the context of a global pandemic is described. Additionally, practical use-case scenarios to demonstrate the use of Machine Learning for predictive maintenance as well as for smart cities using Python, Tensorflow, and Jupyter are introduced.
