ABSTRACT

In 2017, FIDIC published the 5th edition of its White Book, plus the 2nd edition of the Red, Yellow and Silver forms of contract, which followed on from the 1999 editions. As all of these forms of contract formed quite a departure from their predecessors, this chapter is divided into two sections to explain the significance of these new forms, the first dealing with the provisions of the 5th edition of the White Book, including its liability insurance clauses. The second section introduces the 2017 Red, Yellow and Silver forms of contract, including a discussion of the underlying philosophy of the changes that were made to these new 2017 editions. The changes that were made to the risk and insurance clauses of the Red, Yellow and Silver Books are also set out in this chapter.
