ABSTRACT

Indemnity and insurance form the last two links in the chain of sequence emanating from risk. In this chapter, the various types of indemnity are discussed. Indemnity provisions through subrogation and as a result of a contractual arrangement are explained with emphasis on construction insurance and its related characteristics. The concept of the insurability of risks is then discussed in this chapter, which naturally leads to the various types of insurance policies that are usually required in construction contracts and the risks that remain uninsured, and are thus retained by the parties, unless the parties choose to have them insured separately.
