ABSTRACT

As the title of this chapter indicates, the insurance scene is discussed, with emphasis on the structure of the insurance market, particularly in connection with construction-related insurance. The duties of the broker when handling and placing the risks with an insurer are discussed under different headings. The roles of the insurer and the reinsurer are then explained and the relationship between them in carrying the risks involved is set out. Premium calculation is explained with particular reference to the characteristics of construction insurance. The documents that one would expect to be generated when transacting construction insurance are discussed under four headings: the proposal form; the policy document; the endorsement, if any; and the claim form and these are set out in this chapter.
