ABSTRACT

One of the most difficult complex problems in astrobiology is how life originated on the Earth. There are other complex astrobiology problems such as an interplay between prebiotic chemistry and the geological conditions on the early Earth. There are also problems with classification of various biologically related entities, such as viruses, which are mysterious since they exhibit some but not all the properties of alive systems. Thus, it is difficult to decide if viruses are alive or not. Another difficult complex problem in astrobiology is that of determining the nature of the putative extraterrestrial life. Some complex astrobiology problems may be linked to other complex problems, which creates a perception of overwhelming “mega” problems. However, the systems approach may be more productive for solving such problems. The systems approach is also helpful for studying prebiotic chemical systems.
