ABSTRACT

In every category of wireless networks, which are based on the coverage area, there fall different types of wireless networks that operate on different protocols and standards. For example, every major category has different types of wireless networks that operate on different frequency bands, and protocols. This chapter discusses the working principle of those wireless networks in terms of standards, underlying technology, frequency bands, and communication protocols, respectively. Cellular wireless system is another important example of Wireless Wide Area Network. A cellular network is normally spread across the regions and across the countries. Wireless Interoperability for Microwave Access or precisely referred to as Wi-Max is a type of Wireless Metropolitan Area Network. Long Term Evolution is the latest wireless technology commonly referred to as a 4G technology. Wireless Local Area Network can also be defined as wireless Ethernet in which the Ethernet cables are replaced with the wireless air signals. Bluetooth is a short range and low-power wireless communication system.
