ABSTRACT

The emergency department (ED) plays a crucial role in patient care and patient safety by providing immediate medical care to patients with acute illnesses or injuries. The ED is equipped with advanced medical technology and resources to diagnose and treat patients quickly and effectively, often in life-threatening situations. Healthcare organizations can implement strategies to improve the quality and safety of care in the ED. These strategies may include increased staffing and resources, improved communication and collaboration among healthcare providers, and the use of technology to support accurate diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, healthcare organizations can invest in training and education for ED staff to improve their skills and knowledge and promote a culture of safety. Improving ED safety in developing countries will require a multifaceted approach that addresses the challenges unique to these settings. By investing in resources, workforce development, technology, quality improvement, and collaboration, developing countries can improve ER safety, ultimately improving patient outcomes and saving lives. This chapter aims to describe ED safety issues, prevention, challenges, and recommendations for the best practice in developing countries.
