ABSTRACT

Pharmacies play a critical role in patient care and patient safety. Despite the best efforts of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to prevent errors, medication errors can and do occur in pharmacies. These errors can result in serious harm to patients, including hospitalization, disability, or even death. To prevent these types of errors, pharmacies have implemented a range of strategies, such as computerized order entry systems, barcoding systems, and other technologies to improve accuracy and prevent errors. Additionally, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receive extensive training on medication safety and error prevention. Pharmacies errors and related problems are a major challenge in developing countries. To address this challenge, there is a need for concerted efforts by regulatory bodies, healthcare professionals, and governments to implement effective strategies and interventions that promote quality control, access to information, use of technology, cultural awareness, and regulatory compliance. This chapter aims to describe the pharmacies' safety issues, prevention, challenges, and recommendations for the best practice in developing countries.
