ABSTRACT

This chapter presents case studies involving errors in emergency department (ED) care and their impact on patient safety. The study examines the causes of errors, including communication breakdowns, system issues, and individual factors, and the resulting harm to patients. The paper discusses strategies for preventing errors, such as improving communication, implementing protocols and guidelines, and enhancing teamwork and training. It also highlights the importance of a culture of safety and the involvement of patients and families in the care process. Ultimately, the paper emphasizes the need for continued efforts to improve patient safety in EDs through ongoing education, monitoring, and quality improvement initiatives. Patient safety case studies are an essential tool for improving healthcare quality and safety. They provide a detailed analysis of a specific patient safety incident or event, which can help identify the root causes, contributing factors, and possible solutions to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
