ABSTRACT

A track of land covered with trees, shrubs, bushes or woody vegetation whether of natural growth or planted by human agency, existing, maintained with or without human effort or such track of land on which such growth is likely have an effect on the supply of timber, fuel, forest-produce or grazing facilities, or on climate, stream flow, protection of land from erosion, or other such matters and include. World over, forests occupied about 10% of the land area and they are regarded as crops by Adivasis and Tribal people. Forests are being destroyed worlds over for the purpose of Agriculture and industries. Scientific forestry began in India with Sir Dietrich Brandis, a German who took charge as first Inspector General of Forest India, in 1864. The agricultural demand of fuel and fodder and medicinal plants made people to think of conservation of forests and forestation in large scale denuded forest areas.
