ABSTRACT
Electrical substation is an integral part of electricity transmission or sub-transmission and distribution or sub-distribution system as it plays the role of an interface between the two. Different topologies are being adopted for a substation in order to meet the reliability besides network security which is the ability of a power system to supply electricity to customers uninterruptedly. This chapter enumerates all these aspects including their merits and demerits.
