ABSTRACT

The details of the design of sewers are presented in this chapter. The relationships between partial flow parameters are presented and further illustrated with solved example problems. Example problems also include the determination of partial flow depth and flow velocity under low flow conditions. Flow equations for various flow conditions are analyzed and typical designs are demonstrated. The maximum, minimum and self-cleansing velocity of flow is defined and the mathematical relationships for partially full pipes are established. The chapter ends with a section on storm drainage. The Rational Method formula as it applies to urban drainage is detailed and example problems are included.
