ABSTRACT
This chapter illustrates the structure of the atmosphere and its five zones with a diagram. The chemical constituents of the atmosphere are tabulated, and the conversion of units is illustrated with solved example problems. The causes and sources of air pollution and its effects on human health and animal and plant life are detailed. The global effects of air pollution are included. The various types of air sampling, air monitoring, particulate sampling devices and gas sampling are described. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is defined and its relationship with health effects are tabulated.
