ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the theory and practice of an environmental impact assessment (EIA). The purpose, types and objectives of an EIA are discussed, tracing its historical evolution. The step-by-step procedure of an EIA using examples is detailed. The process of environmental impact reporting, along with its limitations, is discussed.
