ABSTRACT

The sophistication of Japanese anime was developed within an elaborated, disciplined, and using a challenging format, before the digital era with computers. Identifying a typical Finnish old building is impossible. All the houses reference the Nordic cottage style or later influences of the Russian era, namely the adaptation of the Empire style—a form of recycled neoclassism. Different variants show how vital the animation character has become; it also opens licensing opportunities and turns the creations into cash. The best Nordic case of this is the Moomins. The offspring of Tove Jansson’s two brothers have done their best in doing so, although Tove too modified the characters already, herself, for many uses in her lifetime.
