ABSTRACT

When compared to conventional small molecular drugs, nanotherapeutics have distinct advantages in clinical outcomes. Intensive research in the field of nanomedicine has occurred over the last three decades, resulting in a large number of nanomedical products being commercialized globally as well as a pipeline of candidates being translated. However, the development of nanomedicine continues to be hampered by low efficacy in many applications. The key to moving the field forward is a thorough understanding of the current obstacles, addressable challenges, and future demands. This chapter provides a brief overview of some common challenges as well as an outlook on the future prospects of nano-based drugs.
