ABSTRACT

Air pollution is considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the world’s single greatest environmental hazard responsible for one in eight premature deaths globally. Discussed are the forms, sources, and human and ecosystem health consequences of air pollution. The health impacts of indoor air pollution from cooking stoves in low-income countries are discussed. Particular attention is given to U.S. and international policies on control of air pollution emission. The primary air pollutions, for example, ozone, are described as source and toxicology. The U.S. Clean Air Act is discussed in detail, together with international policies on air pollution control. Also discussed are the relationships between air pollution and social justice issues and the impact of COVID-19 on air quality.
